About this organisation

EUMETSAT, the European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites, is an intergovernmental organisation headquartered in Darmstadt, Germany, that operates Europe's weather and climate satellites on behalf of its 30 Member States. It runs the Meteosat geostationary fleet, the Metop polar-orbiting missions and Europe's contribution to Copernicus ocean-monitoring satellites, and delivers the data that feeds national weather services, climate research and maritime and aviation safety across Europe and beyond. Set up by convention in 1986, it is governed by a Council of its Member States and operates outside the EU framework, which makes it a useful case for anyone interested in how European space cooperation works in practice. For careers, it recruits engineers, scientists and data specialists, but also legal, policy, procurement and international relations professionals who handle the treaties, data policies and partnerships that keep the system running.
