EUMETSAT is Europe's meteorological satellite agency, operating on behalf of its 30 Member States and the European Union to monitor weather and climate from space around the clock. A central dimension of EUMETSAT's mandate is the operation of Copernicus satellites and instruments on behalf of the EU, delivering data and services for the Copernicus marine, atmospheric composition, and climate change services — making EUMETSAT a critical node in Europe's Earth observation governance architecture. This Programme Management Officer position is embedded within the Copernicus Programme Office (CPO) in the Operations and Support to Users Department, supporting the EUMETSAT Copernicus Programme Manager in delivering EUMETSAT's contributions to the EU Copernicus Programme under the EU–EUMETSAT Agreement. The postholder will support coordination with the European Commission, ESA, and other Copernicus partners; maintain programme schedules, deliverable tracking, and KPI dashboards; contribute to progress reporting to the European Commission, EUMETSAT Member States, and the EUMETSAT Management Board; manage Copernicus outreach and data user uptake reporting; and support internal and external meetings including with high-level institutional stakeholders. For space governance professionals with backgrounds in Earth observation programme management or EU institutional frameworks, this role offers substantive engagement with one of Europe's most consequential space governance partnerships — at the heart of Copernicus programme delivery. The initial contract is 4 years, with subsequent 5-year contracts up to retirement age (63). EUMETSAT Member State nationality required.
University degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent vocational experience Solid understanding of programme and project management principles including planning, scheduling, and monitoring Understanding of Copernicus, Earth Observation programmes, or similar institutional frameworks Excellent reporting and writing skills with ability to synthesise complex issues Experience contributing to outreach, reporting, and communication activities Good interpersonal, team-working, and organisational skills Effective working proficiency in English (mandatory); some knowledge of French required Nationality of a EUMETSAT Member State required
