About the position

The EU Delegation to the United Nations and other international organisations in Geneva is the European Union's diplomatic mission to the multilateral system, covering bodies including the Human Rights Council, the Conference on Disarmament, ITU, UNCTAD, WIPO, WHO, WMO, ILO, and UNECE. It is one of the most significant postings in EU external affairs and a key node in the multilateral architecture that underpins global governance. Six funded traineeship positions are available for September/October 2026 (3-6 months) across the following sections: Human Rights; Economic Affairs, Development, Environment and Digital (covering ITU, WIPO, UNECE, UNCTAD, WMO); Social Affairs and Labour; Health; Head of Delegation; and Disarmament and Non-Proliferation (start date November 2026). For the Orbital Diplomat community, the Disarmament and Non-Proliferation traineeship is of particular relevance. Disarmament is increasingly central to the future of space governance: the Conference on Disarmament remains the primary multilateral forum for negotiations on the Prevention of an Arms Race in Outer Space (PAROS), and the EU's engagement with arms control, dual-use technology, and non-proliferation frameworks directly shapes European positions on space security. The Economic section's coverage of ITU is also directly relevant to space, given ITU's custodianship of the international spectrum and satellite orbit coordination framework. Candidates may apply to only one section per delegation.
