About the position

Sierra Space is a mission-proven defence technology company headquartered in Colorado, delivering satellite platforms, reusable spaceplanes (Dream Chaser), hypersonic technologies, propulsion systems, and critical subsystems for U.S. national security, civil, and allied government customers. With over three decades of heritage and trusted relationships across the U.S. Space Force, NASA, and the intelligence community, Sierra Space sits at the intersection of commercial space, defence acquisition, and emerging space law and regulatory frameworks. This Legal Counsel role reports directly to the General Counsel and serves as a key strategic adviser to executive leadership across the full range of legal matters affecting a complex aerospace and defence business. Responsibilities span commercial contract drafting and negotiation, M&A and capital markets transactions, corporate governance, employment law, compliance programme management, and regulatory monitoring — with explicit scope covering export controls, FAR/DFARS, space law, and regulations specific to the aerospace industry. The role is well suited to senior in-house attorneys or law firm partners with aerospace or defence sector backgrounds who are seeking a broad, high-visibility counsel role at an ambitious space company. Board advisory experience and expertise in capital markets transactions alongside government contracting are particularly valued. US Person status is required.
