About the position

The United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR) is an autonomous UN institution based at the Palais des Nations, Geneva. Its Space Security Programme is one of the world's foremost centres of expertise on the governance and security implications of outer space, producing the Space Security Portal, the Lexicon for Outer Space Security, and the annual Outer Space Security Conference. Two Graduate Professional positions are available within the Space Security Programme starting 1 July 2026, each for six months with the possibility of extension. Under the supervision of the Head of Programme, Graduate Professionals will assist with substantive research supporting the finalisation of the Space Security Portal and PAROS timeline, provide logistical and substantive support for in-person, hybrid, and virtual events including the Outer Space Security Conference, monitor ongoing multilateral space processes including the Open-Ended Working Group on PAROS, and contribute to the full lifecycle of publications and day-to-day programme activities. This is a highly competitive entry point into the international space security community, offering direct exposure to multilateral diplomatic processes, UN member state engagement, and one of the most active space security research programmes in the UN system. Positions are open to current graduate students and recent graduates. Applications generated with AI will not be processed.

Requirements
