ispace is a lunar exploration and development company with offices in Japan, Luxembourg, and the United States, developing high-capacity payload lunar landers for future lunar missions. The U.S. branch in Englewood, Colorado operates at the intersection of commercial space, U.S. government contracting, and a multinational corporate structure spanning Japanese, European, and American entities. This Legal Assistant position supports ispace's U.S. legal function, reporting to Senior Legal Counsel. The role is substantive and varied: it combines legal research on space law, regulatory developments, and policy matters with hands-on compliance tracking across FAR/DFARS, ITAR, and EAR frameworks, NDA and commercial agreement processing, contract lifecycle management, outside counsel coordination, and internal legal operations including matter tracking and client intake triage. The role also serves as a coordination point between ispace-U.S. and its parent holding company, supporting cross-border compliance and reporting requirements — giving the postholder direct exposure to the international legal and regulatory architecture of a fast-growing commercial lunar company. It is a strong entry point for candidates seeking to build a career in space law or in-house legal practice within the aerospace and defence sector. The position is fully on-site in Englewood, CO.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree required Minimum 2 years of experience in a legal assistant, paralegal, or legal operations role in an in-house legal department or law firm Experience in the aerospace, defence, government contracts, or technology sectors preferred Strong organisational skills with ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines simultaneously Excellent written communication skills including drafting, proofreading, and editing Proficiency with contract lifecycle management systems and Microsoft Office Suite Familiarity with ITAR, EAR, or similar export control and national security compliance frameworks preferred US Person status required for ITAR compliance Desirable: experience in commercial space, satellite, or advanced aerospace industry Desirable: exposure to international transactions or cross-border compliance with Japanese or European entities Desirable: prior experience in a startup or growth-stage company environment
