About the position

ClearSpace is the pioneer of active debris removal (ADR) and in-orbit servicing, leading the world's first commercial debris removal mission under ESA contract and expanding rapidly into inspection, defence, and sovereign space capabilities. As national space security agencies and military commands increasingly seek non-cooperative rendezvous, proximity operations, and space domain awareness services, ClearSpace is building the business development function to capture this emerging market. This Director of Business Development – Inspection and Defence role leads ClearSpace's engagement with defence and security customers globally, spanning military space commands, national intelligence agencies, and allied space security programmes. The postholder will develop and own the pipeline for ClearSpace's inspection and defence-adjacent service portfolio, build relationships with key government and defence decision-makers, lead proposals and capture strategies for classified and sensitive programmes, and work closely with ClearSpace's technical and legal teams on mission concepts and regulatory positioning. For space security professionals with backgrounds in government, defence acquisition, or national security space programmes who are seeking a transition into the commercial sector at its most strategically consequential frontier, this is a rare opportunity to shape the business model of in-orbit inspection and defence services from the ground up.

Requirements

Significant experience in business development or capture management in the defence, intelligence, or national security space sector Established relationships with key decision-makers in military space commands, national space security agencies, or allied space organisations Deep understanding of the national security space market including acquisition processes and programme structures Experience leading complex proposals for classified or sensitive government programmes Ability to work across jurisdictions including UK, Europe, and US defence markets Strong written and oral communication skills for senior government and military audiences Eligibility for relevant security clearances
