The Space Generation Advisory Council (SGAC) is a global non-governmental, non-profit organisation representing university students and young space professionals to the United Nations, space agencies, industry, and academia, with registered offices in Vienna and the United States. As SGAC expands its international partnerships with government bodies, industry actors, and academic institutions — and undertakes reforms to its internal governance structure — it requires additional legal capacity within its Executive Office to review and manage legal documents of lasting institutional significance. This Co-Lead position in the Office of the General Counsel reports directly to the SGAC Chairs and Executive Director and sits on the SGAC Executive Committee. The postholder will review and manage MoUs, statements of intent, contracts, and institutional agreements; advise on tax and reporting obligations of a dual-registered international NGO; provide legal support on governance matters including Bylaws compliance and Code of Conduct issues; lead the Statutes and Bylaws Review Committee ahead of the annual General Assembly; and support the ongoing improvement of SGAC's governance documentation and institutional stability. For early-career space law and governance professionals, this volunteer role offers direct engagement with the legal and institutional infrastructure of one of the most internationally active youth-led space organisations, executive committee membership, and practical experience advising an NGO operating at the intersection of space law, international governance, and UN COPUOS processes. Time commitment is 3-5 hours per week; term is two years, renewable once.
SGAC membership required; aged 33 or under at time of application Law degree (LL.B., J.D., or equivalent) required Hands-on experience with legal contract documentation and review in a non-academic capacity Interest in applying legal expertise in the aerospace or space governance sector Business/professional fluency in English Strong attention to detail, responsiveness, and teamwork capacity Familiarity with SGAC's mission and objectives Desirable: licence to practise law in a US state or other common or civil law jurisdiction Desirable: experience managing legal affairs of an international organisation with multiple registered offices Desirable: knowledge of US not-for-profit law including 501(c)(3) reporting requirements and Board filing obligations
