The Moon Village Association (MVA) is a Vienna-based international NGO with over 1,000 members worldwide, advocating for an open and inclusive lunar village as a blueprint for future international cooperation in space. MVA holds observer status at COPUOS, participates in international governance debates, and coordinates GEGSLA — the Global Expert Group on Sustainable Lunar Activities — which develops the most comprehensive non-governmental framework for sustainable lunar governance currently in existence. This volunteer Legal Advisor Support Officer role provides practical legal assistance to MVA's Legal Advisor, supporting the Association's day-to-day legal and governance needs. Responsibilities include maintaining and reviewing the Association's Statutes, Bylaws, and governance documents; supporting the legal dimensions of partnerships, sponsorships, and events; reviewing contracts; and assisting with other legal tasks as delegated by the Legal Advisor, President, or Board. For early-career space law practitioners, this position offers direct engagement with the legal infrastructure of one of the most active civil society organisations in lunar governance, access to MVA's international network, and hands-on experience with NGO governance and space law in practice. Knowledge of German is a significant advantage given MVA's Vienna registration. Time commitment is a few hours per week depending on activity level.
Law degree (LL.B., J.D., or equivalent) required LL.M. and/or PhD in Law highly desirable Professional or academic experience in domestic and/or international law Knowledge of contract law and legal document review Strong written and verbal communication skills in English Knowledge of German considered a significant advantage Experience with non-profit organisations, associations, or NGOs an asset Knowledge of space law or space-related legal issues an advantage Application: CV and brief motivation statement submitted via the MVA application form
