About the position

Note: this position is advertised in Spanish. Spanish nationality or permanent civil service status in Spain is required. The Agencia Espacial Española (AEE), established in 2023 under the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, is Spain's national space agency, responsible for the Spanish National Space Strategy, the National Space Programme, and coordination of Spain's space security and defence posture. This Director-level appointment leads the Dirección de Seguridad y Planificación — one of the agency's most strategically sensitive directorates. The postholder will support the objectives of Spain's National Security Strategy, the National Aerospace Security Strategy, the EU Space Strategy for Security and Defence, and NATO Space Policy. Responsibilities span: coordinating the AEE's contributions to national and international security frameworks; overseeing Space Traffic Management operations and Space Surveillance and Tracking (SST/SSA) activities; managing cybersecurity, information protection, and the accreditation of entities involved in classified projects; establishing civil liability and insurance requirements for space operations; supporting infrastructure certification; and integrating all Directorates' plans within Spain's national and international security commitments. This is one of the most senior space security appointments in the Spanish public sector, combining strategic planning, geopolitical analysis, crisis management, and space situational awareness under a single executive mandate. The appointment is made by the AEE's Governing Council on the joint proposal of the Director and the Ministry of Defence representative.
